Reproductive Services

Looking to improve conception rates in your breeding program? Our reproductive team is committed to providing top-notch care for responsible breeders. We can assist you in determining the optimum time to breed your dogs and enhance the success of pregnancy. Our staff strives to improve clinic standards to provide the best education to our clients, whether you are a first-time breeder in search of guidance or an experienced AKC registered breeder. We will be here for you throughout the entire reproductive process, starting with the initial health evaluation and performing various tests throughout the pregnancy.

We can perform vaginal cytology on female dogs to calculate the stage of estrus. This method involves taking a swab of the vaginal cells and analyzing them under a microscope. Usually, more than one swab is required. Another method we can use is to perform a simple blood test to determine the luteinizing hormone (LH) surge and pinpoint the dog’s fertile period. Additional tests, including a thyroid analysis, brucellosis, and other forms of genetic testing, should be performed on your dog before estrus. These tests can rule out any potential problems or alert you to issues that need to be addressed before breeding.

Progesterone tracking can determine the best timing for insemination and accurately predict the patient’s due date. We use ultrasound and radiography to confirm pregnancy, and help owners prepare for delivery day, whether the patient is naturally whelping or scheduled for Cesarean section. We also assist with registration through the American Kennel Club and Orthopedic Foundation of Animals, as well as health certificates for travel.

While we do specialize on the female side of the process, we hope to ensure the health of both our male and female patients. We work closely with Infinity Canine for the collection, processing, shipment, and storage of semen. If you have any questions about the services we offer or would like to set up an appointment with Dr. Swanner to discuss how we can further assist you, please reach out to Christie, Reproductive Medicine Coordinator by email at
